Founded in July 1989 within the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, CBECU has grown from a visionary security officers collective into a premier financial cooperative safeguarding the futures of our members for over 35 years.

From Humble Beginnings to Cooperative Strength
Over three decades ago, dedicated Central Bank security officers pooled resources to create a financial haven for fellow employees. Here is how our legacy grew.
The Genesis & Official Registration
Recognizing a mutual need for accessible savings and fair credit, Central Bank security officers unite. In July 1989, CBECU is officially registered with Mr. Arthur James as President and Mr. Charles De Silva as Vice President.
Rapid Growth to 58 Founding Members
Membership expands from a committed few to 58 members in year one. Share capital grows rapidly, and the credit union issues its very first member loans.
Prudent Governance & Safe Investments
Under presidents like Ann Marie Narine and Treasurer Patrick Solomon, CBECU establishes top-tier investment policies. Early directors voluntarily decline honoraria to protect and maximize dividend returns for all members.
Modern Digital Financial Services
CBECU embraces modern banking with secure online banking, streamlined mortgage financing, high-yield fixed deposits, and family indemnity plans for active and retired Central Bank employees and their families.

As a founding member of CBECU, it is a heartfelt pleasure to see how our cooperative has flourished. Most of our founding members came from the Security Department, united by a common need to help one another. Together with Arthur James (our first President) and Patrick Solomon (Treasurer), we introduced high-quality investments and voluntarily waived honoraria until the credit union could afford them without sacrificing member dividends. We are immensely proud of what CBECU is today.
