Membership & EligibilityWho is eligible to join Central Bank Employees' Credit Union?

Membership is open to all permanent, temporary, and contract employees of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, immediate family members (spouses, children, parents, and siblings) of Central Bank employees are eligible for full membership. Retired Central Bank staff retain lifetime membership privileges.

Membership & EligibilityWhat documents are required to complete a membership application?

You will need: 1) Two valid forms of government-issued photo identification (National ID Card, Passport, or Driver's Permit); 2) Proof of residential address (utility bill issued within the last 3 months); 3) Recent Central Bank payslip or job confirmation letter; 4) Completed membership application form and initial share contribution.

Membership & EligibilityCan my spouse and children join if I am a member?

Yes! Family inclusion is a core pillar of CBECU. Your spouse, children, parents, and siblings are eligible to join, open share accounts, apply for financing, and enroll in the Family Indemnity Plan.

Loans & BorrowingHow does reducing-balance interest save me money over commercial banks?

Commercial banks frequently quote flat "add-on" rates where interest is calculated on the initial principal throughout the whole term. At CBECU, interest is charged strictly on your diminishing balance. As you make monthly payments, your principal balance decreases, and your interest charge automatically drops every single month, saving you thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your loan.

Loans & BorrowingWhat types of loan facilities are available to members?

We offer a full suite of financing solutions including: Vehicle Loans (up to 100% financing for new & roll-on/roll-off vehicles), Home Improvement & Renovation Loans, High-Interest Debt Consolidation Loans, Educational Tuition Loans, Vacation Loans, and Emergency Personal Facilities.

Loans & BorrowingAre there penalties for paying off my loan early or making lump-sum payments?

None whatsoever. You have the complete freedom to make accelerated principal repayments or clear your loan in full at any time with zero early settlement penalties or administrative closure fees.

Loans & BorrowingWhat documentation is required when submitting a loan application?

Standard requirements include: completed loan application form, most recent payslip, job letter, two valid IDs, recent utility bill, and facility-specific documents (e.g. pro-forma invoice and insurance quote for vehicles, contractor estimates for renovations, or statements for debt consolidation).

Savings, Shares & DividendsWhat is the difference between Share Capital and Deposit Accounts?

Share Capital represents your equity co-ownership in the Credit Union. Shares entitle you to voting rights at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and earn annual profit dividends. Deposit accounts are savings facilities earning guaranteed interest that can be held as regular deposits, fixed-term certificates, or target savings.

Savings, Shares & DividendsWhen and how are annual dividends disbursed to members?

Dividends are recommended by the Board of Directors and approved by members at each Annual General Meeting (AGM). Once declared, members can elect to receive their dividend via direct commercial bank deposit or have it credited back into their share equity account to maximize compound wealth growth.

Savings, Shares & DividendsWhat terms and interest rates are available on Fixed Deposit Certificates?

We offer fixed deposit certificates across tenures of 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years. These certificates offer guaranteed, competitive returns backed by strong statutory capital reserves.

Account Operations & WithdrawalsHow long does it take to process a Share or Deposit withdrawal request?

Unencumbered share and deposit withdrawal requests submitted digitally or in office are processed swiftly, with funds transferred directly via ACH to your commercial bank account within 2 business days (48 hours).

Account Operations & WithdrawalsHow do I adjust or reallocate my monthly Central Bank payroll deductions?

You can submit a Transfer Request Form anytime digitally or in person to reallocate how your monthly salary deduction is split between your share account, deposit savings, and active loan facilities.

Account Operations & WithdrawalsHow do I obtain a Letter of Indebtedness or Embassy Visa Confirmation?

You can request an official stamped Letter of Indebtedness online or at our 11th Floor office. Letters verifying your account standing, loan balances, or financial standing are typically prepared and issued within 2 business days.

Insurance & Family ProtectionHow does the CUNA Caribbean Family Indemnity Plan (FIP) work?

The Family Indemnity Plan is a group life and funeral expense benefit administered through CUNA Caribbean Insurance. One monthly premium covers up to 6 family members (member, spouse, children, and parents) with zero medical examinations or health questionnaires required.

Insurance & Family ProtectionWhat is complimentary Loan Protection and Life Savings Insurance?

CBECU provides automatic cooperative insurance at no direct cost to eligible borrowing and saving members. Loan Protection pays off insurable loan balances upon member disability or passing, while Life Savings provides matching death benefit payouts on accumulated share capital.
